The Los Angeles Clippers and Paul George showed up in a big way in Game 5 against the Utah Jazz to steal one on the road and take a 3-2 lead in the series.
Kawhi Leonard’s knee injury held him out of Game 5 and may hold him out of the rest of the postseason, but George (37 points, 16 rebounds), Reggie Jackson (22 points) and Marcus Morris (25 points) all rose to the occasion in Utah.
The Jazz were lights out from the field in the first half, but they shot just 3-for-24 from beyond the arc in the second half and now have their backs against the wall as the series shifts back to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles easily took both home games in this series, but obviously things get a lot different if Leonard is still out.
George, who has been criticized for his playoff shortcomings in his career, has been on a mission this postseason.
The Clippers are fortunate to have a second star like George, but they will need role players to step up again to beat a Jazz team that had the best record in the NBA during the regular season.
The fact that oddsmakers have the Clippers favored to win the series in six is a huge win for Los Angeles, and they certainly would prefer to close things out at home and avoid a winner-take-all Game 7 in Utah.
