It’s looking more and more likely that G League guard Jalen Green will be the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
The team that will draft Green still remains a mystery, as the Houston Rockets, who own the No. 2 pick, have been trying to move up to No. 1, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
“The Rockets have been aggressive in their pursuit of Detroit’s No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and have also discussed guard Eric Gordon in trade scenarios, sources said,” Charania wrote.
If the Detroit Pistons aren’t sold on Cade Cunningham, who is a -10000 favorite on WynnBET to be taken at No. 1, then it is possible that they'd move back to No. 2 in order to acquire more assets and take Green or Evan Mobley.
Green also has the second-best odds to go No. 1 at +1000, which shows that he is starting to become the consensus No. 2 prospect in the 2021 NBA Draft.
After bypassing the collegiate ranks to play in the G League, Green averaged 17.9 points per game while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from beyond the arc last season.
He’s a pure scorer, and could be a building block for Detroit or Houston at the top of the draft.
Green’s biggest competition at No. 2 appears to be Mobley at +185 and Jalen Suggs at +475. Things can change quickly in the draft, but Green’s stock has been rising for weeks and he appears locked in as a top-two pick until further notice.
